See Free Yahoo Chat Rooms - A review
It is no secret that Yahoo chat rooms are absolutely free. In fact Yahoo chat rooms are among the most popular chat rooms on the internet. In order to enter the chat rooms at Yahoo you need to first install Yahoo messenger which is their chat client.Once you've clicked on the the category or subcategory that you're the more interested in you'll be presented with a list of all the rooms available. Next to each rooms you'll see numbers. The number in parentheses indicated the number of users present inside the rooms next to the first number there is a number in brackets preceded by the letter 'w', it indicates the number of users in the room who have their web cam on. You should go into rooms that have a decent number of people. Since those numbers don't seem to be updated in real time chances are if you see a room saying it has twelve people with five using the cam (12)[w3], you might join it only to find out that there were only five people in there.
Once you've chosen a room, click the "Go to Room" button. It it's your first time entering Yahoo! chat for this session, the chat will take some time to connect. Once you're connected to Yahoo! chat you'll need to click on the button that says "Enter Chat" .
Before you can actually enter a room Yahoo will ask you to click on a link for verification. The message from Yahoo and that link are all you'll see in the room before you go through the verification. The fact is that at this point you are not yet actually in the room but rather in a waiting area that leads to the room that you desire joining. Once you've clicked on the link
presented to you by Yahoo- it's a bizarre and extremely long link, but don't worry it's a legitimate link from Yahoo! itself -it will open a browser window in which you'll see an image with a text. You'll be asked to type the text you see in a text box and to press 'enter'. If you've entered the text correctly, Yahoo will congratulate you and let you enter your desired room. Now it's my time to congratulate you because you've successfully entered a Yahoo chat room for the first time maybe.Once in the room I recommend changing your font format before you start posting messages. Why should you do that? Because unless you have a really expressive and attractive ID most people in the room will not notice you especially if you're in a room with a lot of activity. So the first thing you should do is put your font in bold and increase the size to 13 at least. You might also want to change you're fonts colours into something that catches the attention other than the default black. Once you've done all that, you're all set and you may start sending instant messages to the many people present at the same time as you inside the Yahoo chat room. Since you're this really polite person you'll obviously start by saying hi to everyone. The other polite people in there will say hi in return to you and you'll be starting a casual conversation before you know it.
I wish that I could say that the experience inside the chat rooms at Yahoo is always great but that's unfortunately not the case. Inside Yahoo chat rooms especially the very popular chat rooms that you find in the Romance category, there is a really large number of fake user knows as bots. They are called bots as in robots because they are computer programs posing as real Yahoo users. They are the reason why a real user has to enter the captcha text each time he needs to enter a chat rooms. Yahoo thought that the captcha would clean the rooms of bots but obviously they were wrong... So what are bots there for you ask? Most of the time they are used to promote website usually porn sites and sites with adult content like adult dating sites. A bot's behavior in the chat is quite typical and that's why a real user is able to recognize them. Once you're sure you're dealing with a bot don't hesitate to ignore it. To ignore any user inside Yahoo chat all you have to do is right-click on the ID and choose ignore user. So now you're asking how do you recognize a bot. Well it's quite simple. Usually bots pose as female users with sexy IDs and they say things that will get you very curious about them, like that they are lonely at home or that they are about to go on webcam or that they have this webpage where you can see their webcam live. Their goal is to have you click on a link that leads you to the webpage they want you to visit. They will use any excuse to get you there. It turns out that the bots that are promoting porn are not the worst type. Some bots are use to spread spyware and viruses. They behave more or less like the other ones except that they send you to a page that installs a spyware or a virus on your computer. You always need to have up to date antivirus software when you use your computer to surf the internet. Also, you should not download anything from untrustworthy web sites.
So you see the free Yahoo chat rooms may not always be this great free chat experience you were hoping to have. Hopefully there are not only bots inside those rooms. There are also many real people who are there for the same reasons as you. Eventually by looking around a bit and by making yourself noticed inside the chat rooms you will find them or they will find you and you'll chat happily until you get tired or have to go because you have something else to do. If you meet someone really interesting inside a room and you want to still stay in touch with that person in the future you should add that person to your contact list by right-clicking on the person's name and choosing add contact or by clicking on the + sign in the IM window. This way you'll easily know when that person comes online while you are also online so you can chat with each other.
A few important details. Yahoo chat rooms are for people 18 and over. People under 18 are not allowed inside the chat rooms even though they may use Yahoo messenger freely. Yahoo chat rooms were not always an adult only place but they had really bad cases of adults soliciting minors therefore they put all the kids out of the chat rooms and they also put an end to user rooms. Yahoo chat being an adult chat doesn't mean that you will only find sex chat in there, they have separate 'adult rooms' where you may chat about all the sexual topics you can think of but most other rooms are for regular chat.
As I said in the beginning Yahoo chat rooms are among the most popular free chat rooms on the internet that alone is reason enough to give them a try. Happy chatting!
Thanks for your very interesting comment about yahoo chat rooms. At first it seems like an imaginary trip through "fantacy land". The way Yahoo chat rooms use to be like. But as you said, those spamers (bots) have really spoil a relaxing time in the chat rooms. I have the good fortune to chat with somebody from South Africa and become really interested in his stories, but the chat is interupted continuosly by "bots" bombarding me with websites for me to visit. I became madly involved in deleting these "bots" and discover that I have accidently deleted the chat screen of my friend from South Africa. How frustrating it is when in a chat room!! I wish Yahoo would get off their shiny arses and do something about this problem. When in chat rooms there are dozens of people asking the same question about Yahoo. I am also fed up with sending complaints to Yahoo help. All I get in return is an automated email telling me to put them on my ignore list. I am in the chat rooms to chat with friends. NOT to do Yahoo's work and delete bots. Also, some rooms have 20-30 people in them and 75% of those are "bots". SHAME Yahoo SHAME!!
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I understand your frustration. I don't know if the Yahoo chat rooms will ever come back to what they used to be. I believe the reason why things are so bad is because Yahoo does not consider the Chat Rooms its priority, I'm guessing that they are not making enough money from it, the Yahoo messenger team mostly focus on IM. They don't realize that many people use Yahoo only because of the chat rooms. To make matters worse it seems that every new version of Yahoo messenger they come with has more bugs than the previous one.
ReplyDeleteIt seems Yahoo is slowly but surely pushing us out of the chat rooms maybe they are planning to close all chat rooms in the near future?
I think nowadays the chat option is not there with yahoo.
ReplyDeleteon messenger 9.0 the chat option itself is missing frm menu... in earlier versions it was there..
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThe chat rooms are still there. You have to look for them in the Menu like it's said in the post. Go in Messenger and you will find it.
I know Yahoo is trying to hide it but they did not get rid of it.
No, he seems to be right, the option is simply not there. If there is a way of finding it then could you please explain how?
ReplyDeleteThe image in the second paragraph clearly shows where in the menu that you find the entry that will lead you to Yahoo chat. Now if you can't find this same entry in your messenger menu please specify the version you're using.
ReplyDeleteThe above photo shows Yahoo messenger version 9 for Windows. The chat rooms are still there and they still work.
you actually think that Yahoo wants the bots gone? It's called advertising and i'm sure that Yahoo gets paid a pretty handsome some for letting the bots "in" while we have to enter a code every time
ReplyDeletebtw...for some reason messenger wont let me enter the code to get into the rooms, the field will just not come into focus
Still can't see the option to get into chat. I have downloaded the Version 9 and I can clearly see that there is no option there, Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteThat's why I added the screen shot. So you could all "see" what I'm talking about. Apparently I might need to add a video too...
ReplyDeleteplenty(u must be using the uk version)
ReplyDeleteall you have to do is this unistall yahoo msg and download the U.S version then the chat room option is there :)
I checked and indeed it seems the UK version of Yahoo messenger does not support chat rooms. To be sure that the local version of messenger that you are downloading has chat rooms look at the "features" page- from the top menu on the Yahoo messenger page -. A special thanks to the last person who left a comment- before mine -. If you don't want to be bothered with that, simply download the US version from messenger.yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteGuys, I would really appreciate it if you would use some kind of nickname when leaving comments it would make referring to old comments easier.

ReplyDeleteYahoo messenger no longer offers yahoo chat rooms. They removed them do to the amount of SPAM Bots randomly messaging people in the chat room and trying to get them to visit unnecessary sites. So what did YAHOO! do they removed the chat rooms completely along with other options.
